Medicinal Use:

Laxative (purgative)

Bowel preparation pre-colonoscopy

IBS

Senna plus Psyllium and docusate sodium is great, especially for the elderly and those having undergone anorectal surgery

Anorexia

Contraindications:

Abdominal pain of unknown origin

Diarrhea

Children over 2 only

Electrolyte disturbances

Potassium deficiency

Dehydration

Intestinal blockage

Chron’s / ulcerative colitis

Appendicitis

Anal prolapse

Hemorrhoids

Heart disease

Warning:

Discontinue use if: watery stools, diarrhea

Do not exceed recommended dosage

Do not use long term or high doses

Use for no longer than 2 weeks

Side effects can be: stomach cramps, diarrhea

May cause nausea and stomach pain, lower the doses

Interactions:

Birth control pills

Digoxin (Lanoxin)

Estrogens

Warfarin

Water pills
