Medicinal Use:

Calming sedative

Insomnia (can combine with hops and lemon balm)

Nervousness / nerves

Anxiety

Stress

Hypochondria

Bipolar

Headaches

Migraines

Upset stomach

Depression (with St. John’s Wort)

Mild tremors / epilepsy

ADHD

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Muscles / joint pain

Menstrual cramps / menopause / hot flushes

Contraindications:

Pregnancy / Lactating

Low blood pressure

Warning:

Use for up to 2 months safely – longer usage will need gentle weaning down of dosage and use when stopping to avoid withdrawals

Safely use it for 15-20 days at a time

Children for 4-8 weeks

Over dosage can cause headaches, excitability, insomnia

Do not operate dangerous machinery while using valerian

Stop use 2 weeks prior to surgery

Interactions:

Alcohol

Xanax

Medications changed by the liver: Sporanox, Allegra, Mevacor, Codeine, Prozac etc.

Sedatives

Antidepressants

Sleeping tablets

Barbiturates

Benzodiazepine
